Holy Cross and St Mary

Sunday 11th June, Trinity Sunday

Isaiah 40:12-17 and 27 to the end.
Verse 31 shows us:
1. WALKING: Strength for the normal
2. RUNNING: Strength for the exceptional
3. FLYING: Strength for the impossible
It’s Trinity Sunday:
There are many references in Isaiah to the work of God the Father and God the Son:
A few examples….
ONE CREATOR: Isaiah 40:28 “The Lord is the everlasting God the creator of the ends of the earth. ” But in the New Testament it teaches that Jesus was the creator: Colossians 1:16 “For by Him all things were created”
ONE SAVIOUR: Isaiah 45:22 “Turn to me and be saved…for I am God and there is no other.” But inn the New Testament this Saviour is revealed as Jesus Christ: Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
FORGIVENESS: Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions….and remembers your sin no more.” But in the New Testament we see Jesus forgiving sins: Mark 2:5 “Son, your sins are forgiven”
ONE GOD: Isaiah 43:10 “Before me no god was formed, neither will there be one after me…. apart from me there is no saviour”. But in the New Testament we see that Jesus is God – John 1:1 following
FIRST AND LAST: Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12 God is the first and last. But in the New Testament, in Revelation, we see an interaction between the Father and the Son… Rev 1:8; 22:13
Mathew 28:16 to the end:
Tells us three things:
1. The Credentials of Jesus – “they worshipped him” (only God should be worshipped)
2. The Credibility of Jesus – “all authority has been given to me”
3. The Commission of Jesus – “therefore go…”
We go by doing the following:
1. KNOW – THE STORY
2. LISTEN – TO GOD
3. CONNECT – WITH PEOPLE
4. SHARE – HOSPITALITY
5. BLESS – OTHERS BY ENCOURAGEMENT AND GIVING
6. REST – IT’S GOD’S WORK
